Facts and Figures
The following output shows completed Change of Degree Applications for the Summer 1 2020 to Spring 2021 semesters. Change of Degree Application (CODA) is NC State’s centralized resource for applying to add or change majors. For the Summer 1 2020 to Spring 2021 semesters, a total of 3,899 applications were successfully completed and students were able to change their majors by meeting specific requirements set by each college.
The above visualization shows the movement of students in and out of NC State Colleges. Focusing on University College (UC), the top colleges that students transfer into are the following:
- MGMT 27.0%
- CHASS 21.7%
- COE 15.9%
University College heavily relies on the CODA process to help its students successfully transfer into their desired colleges. The visualization also shows that students in COE, COS, and CHASS use the CODA process to help explore majors within their respective colleges or other colleges.
Five-Year Trend
The following output shows internal transfers between colleges from 2015 to 2019. This analysis compares internal transfers between Fall census dates, beginning with the previous year. For example, Fall 2015 includes transfers from Fall 2014 census to Fall 2015 census. Also, an internal transfer is counted when a student changes majors outside their current college.
In 2019, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences had the highest percentage of internal transfers at 22.5%, followed by the Poole College of Management at 19.1%. These two colleges also have the highest average net gain over the past five years at 303 and 276 internal transfers, respectively. University College has the highest average net loss over the past five years at 663 internal transfers, with students changing to their desired major. College of Engineering has the second largest average net loss at 189 internal transfers, with students transferring outside the Engineering First Year program.
